Artificial Intelligence (AI) will become a driver of the economy in the coming years, with a positive net GDP impact that will top 13.5% by 2030.
As the adoption of AI technologies is expected to accelerate across a range of industries, having a clear view of the landscape and reaching the startups that develop AI or using AI algorithms in their core activity is the very first step in driving AI adoption.
Together with our partners at Google for Startups and with the support of GapMinder VC, ROTSA, Tech Angels, SeedBlink and Bucharest AI we’ve mapped more than 100 AI startups with promising use cases, founded in Romania or with Romanian founders.
Since 2020, from the start of the Advancing AI initiative in partnership with Google for Startups and the Google Romania team, we have been driven by the vision that startups in Romania and South-East Europe have a great opportunity in the cognitive wave of digitalization applied in the global economy. We estimate that the AI footprint could go beyond 800 companies that employ AI/ML technologies, and more will emerge in the years to come in the region.
AI is helping us do that in exciting new ways, solving problems for our users, our customers, and the world. AI is making it easier for people to do things every day, whether it’s searching for photos of loved ones, breaking down language barriers in Google Translate, typing emails on the go, or getting things done with the Google Assistant. AI also provides new ways of looking at existing problems, from rethinking healthcare to advancing scientific discovery.
